Barcelona Van Der Rohe Style Leather Daybed
The original design behind the Barcelona Daybed dates back to 1930. This contemporary version embodies the same basic elegance as the infamous lounge chair that shares its name.
Inspired by renowned designer Mies van der Rohe, this new version of the Barcelona Daybed uses Mies' signature command of the sleek lines that made him famous as both an architect and furniture designer.
The Barcelona Daybed is based on the renowned seats and chairs that debuted at the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona. They appeared in the German Pavilion. The seat design derived from the classic, scissor-like collapsible stools that Egyptian and Roman rulers used during the Classical Period.
As an architect, Mies was a Modernist legend. He was noted for his impressive glass and steel structures. He was similarly recognized as a furniture designer. He was among the premier designers of the Bauhaus commissioned to build Germany’s offering into the International Exhibition.
The Barcelona Daybed is on spec with Meis' original theme but features a few modern upgrades. A clear lacquer finish protects the hardwood frame. Likewise, the legs are made from tubular steel with a polished, stainless steel finish.
As for the Italian leather panels, they are hand cut, hand-tufted, and hand-welted. Furthermore, the panels and their buttons come from a single hide for a flawless appearance. You can select from several Spinneybeck leather finishes.
