Posted on 06/22/2016
Ok, so we can’t guarantee a summer filled with sunny days and warm nights, we can however, give you our rundown of some of 2016’s hottest garden trends, so that when summer finally does arrive – you are ready to enjoy it!
#1 - Outdoor dining
This year, outdoor dining is all about the cooking, so ditch the traditional barbeque and invest in a wood fired oven! As well as practical they add a contemporary twist to your outdoor space and give your garden a focal point.
#2 - Grow your own
A trend that has been around for a while now, and looks set to continue throughout 2016, is to grow your own fruit and veg. The great thing about this trend is that no matter what size your outdoor space; from balconies to large gardens- everyone can grow their own, whether it is herbs and tomatoes in pots or large designated veg patches - so, get growing!
#3 - Go bold with colour
According to housebeautiful.co.uk bold colours are to be a key trend for garden planting in 2016. To work the trend, plant bright colours in blocks to create a riot of colour that catches the eye. Maximise your planting by offsetting the bold colours with garden seating that shows it off. The Pixie Chair by Vertigo Interiors with its white finish makes the perfect counterpoint to all that vibrant colour. Lightweight, the intricate cut-out back design is also perfect for keeping you cool on hot summer days.
#4 - Lighting
To enjoy the garden well into the evening, garden lighting is a must and a great option is LED lighting. A versatile choice, LED lighting is energy efficient and the bulbs offer an incredible lifespan, it can also be used to create fantastic lighting schemes, with colour changing options available. Solar-powered lighting is another on-trend choice and it is possible to source high-quality solar-powered lighting, including fairy lights, from a wide range of retailers.
#5 - Garden furniture
This year say goodbye to the swinging garden chair and hello to comfortable seating options that bring the inside, out. Patio sets that include low sofa-style seating, perfect for relaxing, and day beds, are a popular choice and add a sense of luxury to any outdoor space. When it is time to eat, opt for something cool and contemporary such as Vertigo Interiors’ Domino chair, with its space saving stacking design and fresh two-tone look, the Domino looks at home whether inside or out!
#6 - Encourage nature
Creating spaces that encourage wildlife to thrive could be a strong trend for 2016. With the right planting it is easy to create a haven for insects such as butterflies and bees, which are in decline, you can also use this trend to add quirky appeal to your garden, with additions such as an ‘insect hotel’.
